Before you go to the track 1. Download and read the novice handbook and rulebook. a. Novice handbook: http://www.bscc.net/content/view/58/26/ b. Rulebook: http://www.bscc.net/content/view/56/26/ 2. Do a quick check of your car. a. Tires: Do they have air in them? Are they showing excess wear? Are the lugs tight? b. The battery is tied down securely without bungee cords or duct tape. c. Remove all the extra stuff from the car; it will all have to come out before you race. d. It's nice to have a plastic tub with a tight fitting lid to put your stuff in, especially when it rains. A tarp can work also. 3. Look for a helmet. BSCC has some loaners, but it is nice to have your own. There are specific rules about helmets in the rule book, so make sure whatever you buy meets them. We will check your helmet during tech to make sure it will work for our events. 4. Pre-register online. This will save you time and money and will make sure you have a space if the event gets full. 5. Bring sunscreen, water, food, and a folding chair. Bring a variety of clothing, including a hat and rain gear, as the weather can be quite unpredictable at the track and we run rain or shine. Standing out in the weather for an hour and a half working the course without proper clothing can be pretty miserable.
On your way to the track Our privilege to use the track is based on the goodwill of the neighbors who live around the track. Please keep your car quiet, follow the speed limits, and no burnouts please. Watch out for kids, dogs and farm animals on the access road. If you see the neighbors, please wave at them and be courteous. Use ALL of your fingers when you wave.
When you get to the track 1. Waiver: sign it at the front gate or be barred from entry. 2. Register (even if you have pre-registered). Registration is open from 7:30 to 8:30 for the morning session, and from 11:30 to 12:30 for the afternoon session. If you are late, you will not get to race. 3. Prepare your car for the event. Remove all things not bolted down: hub caps, etc. Put car numbers on your vehicle. You can download these if you pre-register, or use masking tape/ white shoe polish. 4. Tech: move your car into the technical inspection lane and place your registration card under the driver's side windshield wiper. Once your car passes tech, place it in grid to race (if you run in the next group) or park back in the pits if you run later. 5. Walk the track to begin to learn its flow. Walk it more than once if you have time, just do not walk out there if the cars are already running. 6. Meet at 9am and 1pm to have a mandatory drivers meeting. Attend and learn a bit about racing with BSCC. 7. Work: after the drivers meeting, you will probably have a work assignment (we try to have novices work first on the track, before they are asked to race on it). Stand, please do not sit when you are working at the track. It is hard to get away from a spinning car when you are sitting. Be alert out there. Never turn your back on the cars. Always watch the cones when a car passes through your station, not the car. If you're watching the car, you might not see a cone move. If you miss calling penalties, you affect the results. 8. Grid: when the racing is complete, go from your work assignment to your car. Move your car into grid to prepare to race. There should be someone in grid who will tell you into which lane to place your car. The lane closest to the timing trailer will be the double driver line. All others are single driver lines. 9. Race: finally, go race your car! When you are done with your run, return to grid and wait for your next run. You will generally get four runs with BSCC.
After the race 1. Help us clean up the track and put stuff away. 2. Pick up the things you removed from your car. 3. Check the website a week after the race to see your standings. 4. Pre-register for the next race.
